How do you take a cast off...........

THE DAY IS HERE!!!!



This was in the car before the cast came off. She wanted pictures of the names. She actually did pretty good fitting a lot on there for being a small cast.

PART 1: this is the first half of getting of the cast. If you can hear through the saw she is laughing. The tool the Dr. is using is like a saw but it cuts side to side instead of strait. It tickles if it touches skin and stops. A is really ticklish so you can hear her laughing.

PART 2: Getting the top side cut.


LAST PART: This is the cast spreader. Its like a reverse plyer. A liked hearing the cracking sounds.

Waiting for Dr. to come back in with scissors to cut the fabric part. She tried to spread the cast apart herself.

"OH Yeah. My friend gave me a quarter and I put it in there for safe keeping" I was never told that and this is what her hand looks like now. The quarter was all nasty and green and started eating away at her hand. I done know when she was given the quarter but had to have been a while. She now will sport a nice green spot and blister for a couple days until we get it cleared up.

But.... It all over now.... at least for this child. :)

The broken arm saga...

Last Thursday Ali came home holding her arm and asking me if the nurse called me from school. I said "No, was she supposed too?" Then she proceeded to tell me what had happened. I guess during her morning recess a boy was hitting people and then started to come towards her so she started to run away from him and tripped on some wood and hit a wall with her left hand bent underneath her arm. I guess she had iced put on it, off and on all day at school but still was hurting her when she came home from school. We went out to eat that night with family and she forgot about if for a while so we thought nothing of it until john grabbed her hand hand she said her arm was still hurting.

I called the dr in the morning and we took her in. The dr said right away she thought it was broken. We had xrays taken and sure enough it was. The radius bone was almost completely fractured and the ulna bone had a buckle fracture. Ali thought it was really cool to see her arm like a skeleton. I told the dr about her big day the next day and asked if there was any thing she could wear that could get wet as she was getting baptized the next day and had to be completely under the water. She let us put a brace on that was like 1/2 a cast on the bottom with an ace bandage wrapped around that to keep her arm still. We got through saturday and sunday and went back on monday. These pictures are of her getting her cast on.

She got to pick out her color and wanted purple.

She was so excited she itched for a while and then got to wash her arm really good. She thought this was pretty silly. She had a "SOCK" put on her arm
Then had a lot of a cotten type material wrapped around that for padding
Then the gloves came on and the wrapping started. The dr spent so much time trying to get it just right around her hand the the cast started to get hard really fast and she wasnt able to use all that she was supposed to becaust she couldnt unwrap the material. It was already getting hard.
She cut off what she could and then was just trying to make sure everything is covered like it is supposed to be.
